Create an admin account on Wix
How to create or confirm a Wix owner account with admin rights, so the Amabrik snippet can be added through Settings, Custom Code on a paid plan.
To add the Amabrik snippet to a Wix site, someone needs admin rights on that site. That’s the account that owns the site, or a collaborator the owner has given the right role. Here’s how to get set up.
Create a Wix account and site
If you don’t have a Wix account yet:
- Go to wix.com and click Get Started (top right).
- Sign up with your email and a password, or continue with Google or Facebook.
- Pick how you want to build: choose the Wix Editor, Wix Studio, or let Wix create a starting site for you.
- Follow the prompts until your site is created. The account you signed up with is now the site owner, which is the highest level of access.
If you already have a Wix account, just sign in at wix.com and open the site you want to install on.
Confirm you have the right access
The Amabrik snippet goes in Settings, Custom Code in your site dashboard. Only the site owner, or a collaborator with developer tools permissions, can use that area.
To check who owns the site:
- Sign in to Wix and open your site dashboard.
- In the left menu, go to Settings, then Roles & Permissions.
- The owner is listed at the top. If that’s you, you’re ready. If it’s someone else, ask them to either add the snippet or give you the right role (see the access article).
Custom Code needs a paid plan and a connected domain
This is the part people miss. Wix only allows custom code when the site meets all of these:
- The site is on a paid (Premium) plan, not the free plan.
- A custom domain is connected (so the address is yourdomain.com, not a wix.com subdomain).
- The site has no Wix ads showing, which a paid plan already removes.
- The site is published.
If you’re on the free plan, you’ll need to upgrade and connect a domain first. Open your site dashboard, go to the upgrade or plans area, pick a Premium plan, then connect your domain under Settings, Domains. After that, Settings, Custom Code becomes available.
Add the snippet yourself, or let Amabrik do it
Once you have a paid plan with a connected domain, you can paste the Amabrik snippet into Settings, Custom Code, set it to load on All pages, and place it in the Head.
If you’d rather not touch the code, Amabrik can install it for you. In that case, see the next article on giving Amabrik access to your Wix site.
FAQ
Do I need to be the owner, or is a collaborator enough?
A collaborator works, as long as their role includes developer tools (Velo) permissions. The owner always has access. The access article covers how to set this up.
Can I add custom code on the free Wix plan?
No. Custom code needs a paid plan with a connected domain and no ads. Upgrade and connect your domain first.
Where exactly is Custom Code?
Site dashboard, then Settings, then Custom Code. If you don’t see it, your site is most likely on the free plan or has no domain connected yet.
I forgot which email owns the site. How do I find out?
Open the site dashboard, go to Settings, Roles & Permissions, and the owner is shown at the top of the list.
