Create an admin account on Squarespace
How to create or confirm a Squarespace owner or admin account, so Code Injection can be used to add the Amabrik snippet. Code Injection needs Core or above.
If you’ve asked Amabrik to install the snippet for you, we need someone on your side who can grant us access to the site. That means an account with admin rights on your Squarespace site. The site owner has those rights by default, and the owner can give the same rights to a contributor.
This page covers two cases: you don’t have a Squarespace site yet and need to create one, or you already have a site but need to confirm you (or the right person) can reach the settings. Once that’s sorted, the next step is giving Amabrik access.
What admin access is for here
Amabrik adds one small snippet to your site, and from then on every widget you turn on in your dashboard appears on your site. To add that snippet, we (or you) use a built-in Squarespace feature called Code Injection, found under Settings > Advanced > Code Injection. Only the site owner and contributors with the Administrator role can reach Code Injection, so that’s the level of access we need.
Before you start: check your plan
Code Injection is a premium Squarespace feature. As of June 2026 it’s included on the Core, Plus, and Advanced plans. It is not available on the Basic plan.
If you’re on Basic, you’ll need to upgrade to Core or higher before the snippet can be added. You can check your current plan under Settings > Billing.
If you don’t have a Squarespace site yet
The person who signs up becomes the site owner, which is the highest level of access. There’s one owner per site, and it’s the only role that can’t be removed.
- Go to squarespace.com and start the sign-up.
- Sign up with your email and a password, or continue with Google or Apple.
- Pick a template, or let Squarespace help you start a site. You can change the design later, so don’t overthink it.
- Follow the prompts until your site is created. The account you signed up with is now the site owner.
Squarespace usually starts you on a free trial before you choose a paid plan. To use Code Injection later, you’ll need the Core plan or above, not Basic. The exact trial length and pricing can change, so check the current offer on the sign-up screen.
You can reach your site settings any time by signing in at squarespace.com and opening the site.
If you already have a site
You need either the site owner account or a contributor with the Administrator role. Here’s how to tell which you have:
- Sign in at squarespace.com and open your site.
- Open Settings, then Permissions & Ownership.
- Find your name in the list. If you’re the Owner, you have full access. If you’re a contributor, check that your role is Administrator, since that’s the only contributor role that can use Code Injection.
If you’re not the owner and you’re not an administrator, ask whoever owns the site to either grant you the Administrator role or handle the access step themselves. The owner can update any contributor’s role from the same Permissions & Ownership panel.
Owner vs administrator
You don’t have to be the site owner to set Amabrik up. A contributor with the Administrator role can do everything we need. The difference is narrow:
- Owner: full access to everything, including billing and transferring ownership. There’s one owner per site.
- Administrator: can do almost everything the owner can, including Code Injection and custom code. The one thing an administrator can’t do is transfer site ownership.
For granting us access, either one works. Use whichever account is easiest for the person handling it.
FAQ
Do I have to be the owner to let Amabrik in?
No. A contributor with the Administrator role is enough. The owner just needs to invite that person, or invite us directly. See giving Amabrik access.
Which plan do I need for Code Injection?
Core, Plus, or Advanced. Code Injection isn’t available on the Basic plan. Check your plan under Settings > Billing.
Can an administrator use Code Injection, or only the owner?
Both. Code Injection is open to the owner and to contributors with the Administrator role. That’s why we ask for an Administrator invite.
I forgot which email owns the site.
Try signing in at squarespace.com. If that fails, use the password reset link, or check the inbox that received your Squarespace billing emails, since that’s usually the owner’s email.
What’s the next step once I have admin access?
Move on to giving Amabrik access to your site. That’s where you invite the email we give you so we can add the snippet.
