Create an admin account on Shopify
How to create a Shopify store owner account, or get admin access on an existing store, so the Amabrik snippet can be added to your theme code.
If you’ve asked Amabrik to install the snippet for you, we need someone on your side who can grant us access to the store. That means an account with admin rights on your Shopify store. The store owner has those rights by default, and the owner can give the same rights to a staff member.
This page covers two cases: you don’t have a Shopify store yet and need to create one, or you already have a store but need to confirm you (or the right person) can reach the admin. Once that’s sorted, the next step is giving Amabrik access.
What admin access is for here
Amabrik adds one small snippet to your store, and from then on every widget you turn on in your dashboard appears on your site. To add that snippet, we (or you) edit the theme code in the Shopify admin. That edit needs admin rights, specifically the Themes and Edit code permissions. The store owner has full rights, so the owner can do this directly or pass the right permissions to whoever handles it.
If you don’t have a Shopify store yet
The person who signs up becomes the store owner, which is the highest level of access on the store. There’s only one owner per store, and it’s the only role that can’t be deleted.
- Go to shopify.com and start the sign-up.
- Enter your email address.
- Create a strong password and confirm your account. You can use a few quick questions about your business to set things up, and you can change those answers later.
- Pick a store name. This can be changed afterwards, so don’t overthink it.
- Finish the setup. You’re now signed in to the Shopify admin as the store owner.
Shopify usually starts you on a free trial, then a low introductory price for the first months before the regular plan price applies. The exact trial and pricing can change, so check the current offer on the sign-up screen.
You can reach your admin at any time at admin.shopify.com, or at your store’s own admin URL (your-store-name.myshopify.com/admin).
If you already have a store
You need either the store owner account or a staff account that has admin rights. Here’s how to tell which you have:
- Sign in to your Shopify admin at
admin.shopify.com. - Go to Settings (bottom left).
- Open Users.
- Find your name in the list. If you’re listed as the Store owner, you have full access. If you’re a staff member, check that your role includes the Themes and Edit code permissions (or full permissions).
If you’re not the owner and you don’t have those permissions, ask whoever owns the store to either grant them to you or handle the access step themselves. The owner can update any staff member’s permissions from the same Settings > Users page.
Owner vs staff with admin
You don’t have to be the store owner to set Amabrik up. A staff member with the right permissions can do everything we need. The difference is scope:
- Store owner: full access to everything, including billing and the plan. There’s one owner per store.
- Staff with admin permissions: can do the tasks they’ve been given access to. For installing Amabrik, the Themes and Edit code permissions are what matter.
For granting us access, either one works. Use whichever account is easiest for the person handling it.
FAQ
Do I have to be the store owner to let Amabrik in?
No. A staff account with the Themes and Edit code permissions is enough. The owner just needs to grant those.
Can I change the store owner later?
Yes. The current owner can transfer ownership to another full-access staff member from Settings > Users. The new person has to have a staff account on the store first.
I forgot which email owns the store.
Try signing in at admin.shopify.com. If that fails, use the “Forgot password” link, or check the inbox that received your Shopify billing emails, since that’s usually the owner’s email.
What’s the next step once I have admin access?
Move on to giving Amabrik access to your store. That’s where you invite the email we give you so we can add the snippet.
