Give Amabrik access to your Shopify store
Add Amabrik as Shopify staff with the right permissions, or share access safely, so we can install the snippet. Step by step, plus how to remove access after.
You’ve asked Amabrik to install the snippet for you. To do that, we need to reach the theme code in your Shopify admin. The safe way to grant that is to add us as a staff member with just the permissions we need, rather than sharing your password. This page shows you how, plus a couple of alternatives and how to remove our access once the install is done.
Before you start, make sure you have admin rights on the store. If you’re not sure, see creating an admin account on Shopify.
The email to invite
When you submit the Request Installation form in your Amabrik dashboard, we confirm the exact email address you should invite. Use that address, not a guess. It’s shown to you when you submit the form, so keep that page handy while you follow the steps below.
1. Add Amabrik as staff (recommended)
This is the safest option. You give us a staff login with only the permissions needed to add the snippet, and nothing else.
- Sign in to your Shopify admin at
admin.shopify.com. - Go to Settings (bottom left), then open Users. (On some stores this is labelled Users and permissions.)
- Select Add users, then choose the Admin and Point of Sale tab.
- Enter the email address Amabrik gave you on the Request Installation form.
- Choose the permissions. Turn on at least:
- Themes (under Online Store): lets us view and edit the theme.
- Edit code (under Online Store): lets us open the code editor and add the snippet. If you’d rather not pick individual permissions, you can grant full permissions instead. Both work; the two above are the minimum.
- Click Send invite (or Save).
We get an email invitation and accept it to join your store. Shopify invitations expire after seven days, so if too much time passes you may need to re-send it. Once we’ve added the snippet and you’ve confirmed your widgets are live, remove our access (see below).
2. Collaborator access (alternative)
Shopify also has a separate Collaborator access path for Shopify Partners. Instead of you inviting us, we send a collaborator request from the Partner side, and you approve it. If we let you know we’ll use this route, you’ll find the request under Settings > Users in the Collaborators section, where you approve it and set the same permissions (Themes and Edit code). Most installs use the staff invite in step 1; we’ll tell you if collaborator access is needed instead.
3. Temporary login (fallback, least preferred)
If neither option above works for you, you can give us a temporary login. This is the least safe choice, so only use it if you have to:
- Create a separate staff account just for us with only Themes and Edit code, then share its login through a secure channel (never plain email or chat).
- Turn off or delete that account the moment the install is done.
We’ll always prefer the staff invite in step 1. Sharing your own owner password is not something we ask for, and you shouldn’t do it.
Remove our access after the install
Once your widgets are showing on your store, take our access away. You don’t need to keep us connected for Amabrik to keep working, since the snippet lives in your theme and runs on its own.
- Go to Settings > Users in your Shopify admin.
- Find the Amabrik account (the email you invited).
- Open it and select Remove user (or Suspend access first if you want to keep the record).
- Confirm.
That’s it. Your widgets keep running, and we no longer have any way into your store.
FAQ
Why staff access instead of my password?
A staff invite lets us in with only the permissions we need, and you can remove it in seconds. Your password gives full control of everything, so it’s the wrong tool here. Sharing it also breaks if you ever change it.
Which permissions are the bare minimum?
Themes and Edit code, both under Online Store. Themes lets us reach the theme; Edit code lets us open the code editor to add the snippet.
What if I can’t find “Edit code”?
Make sure you have the Themes permission switched on first; Edit code sits alongside it under Online Store. If you still don’t see it, grant full permissions, or have the store owner do this step.
Will removing your access break my widgets?
No. The snippet stays in your theme and keeps loading your widgets. Removing our staff account only stops us reaching your admin; it has no effect on what visitors see.
The invitation expired. What now?
Re-send it from Settings > Users. Shopify invitations are valid for seven days.
