Create an admin account on PrestaShop
How to get a PrestaShop SuperAdmin employee account, or confirm you have one, so the theme code can be edited and the Amabrik snippet can be added.
If you’ve asked Amabrik to install the snippet for you, we need someone on your side who can grant us access to the store. On PrestaShop that means an employee account with full admin rights, which PrestaShop calls the SuperAdmin profile. A SuperAdmin can edit the theme files where the snippet goes, and a SuperAdmin can create an account for us.
This page covers two cases: you already manage the store and want to confirm you’re a SuperAdmin, or you need to know how SuperAdmin works before you create an account for someone. Once that’s sorted, the next step is giving Amabrik access.
These steps apply to PrestaShop 8.x and PrestaShop 9. The menus sit in the same place in both.
What SuperAdmin access is for here
Amabrik adds one small snippet to your store, and from then on every widget you turn on in your dashboard appears on your site. To add that snippet, we (or you) edit a theme template file, usually the file that ends just before the closing </body> tag. Editing theme files needs full back office rights, which is exactly what the SuperAdmin profile gives. A profile with less access can be blocked from the pages and file edits we need, so SuperAdmin is the clean choice.
Confirm you’re a SuperAdmin
The account created when PrestaShop was installed is a SuperAdmin by default. If you set the store up yourself, that’s almost certainly you. To check:
- Sign in to your back office (your admin URL, the one with the random
adminfolder name). - In the left menu, open Advanced Parameters > Team > Employees.
- Find your name in the list.
- Look at the Profile column for your row. If it reads SuperAdmin, you have the access we need.
If you can’t open Advanced Parameters > Team, your account isn’t a SuperAdmin, and you’ll need someone who is.
If you’re not a SuperAdmin
Ask whoever installed the store, or whoever holds the original admin login, to do one of these:
- Change your profile to SuperAdmin on the Employees page (open your employee row, set Permission profile to SuperAdmin, save).
- Or handle the access step themselves and create the account for Amabrik directly. See giving Amabrik access.
The very first SuperAdmin is the safest person to ask, since that account can’t be locked out of anything.
Employee profiles and permissions
PrestaShop controls who can do what through profiles. Each employee is tied to one profile, and a profile carries a set of permissions. You’ll find them under Advanced Parameters > Team:
- Profiles lists the roles on your store. SuperAdmin, Logistician, Translator, Salesman, and any custom ones you’ve added.
- Permissions is where you set, for every profile except SuperAdmin, what it can view, add, modify, or delete on each back office page, and which modules it can reach.
SuperAdmin is special: it has unrestricted access to everything and its permissions can’t be edited or limited. That’s why it’s the right profile for editing theme code. If you’d rather not hand out full SuperAdmin, you can build a custom profile that can reach the theme and file pages instead, but SuperAdmin is simpler and is what most stores use for an install like this.
FAQ
Where do I find my admin login URL?
PrestaShop renames the admin folder to a random string for security (something like admin7x9k2). Your URL is your domain plus that folder. If you’ve lost it, check the folder names over FTP or in your hosting file manager; the admin folder is the one starting with admin.
Can a non-SuperAdmin let Amabrik in?
Only if their profile can reach the theme and file edit pages. The simplest and most reliable choice is a SuperAdmin. If you’re not one, ask a SuperAdmin to either upgrade your profile or create the account for us.
Is it safe to have more than one SuperAdmin?
Yes, stores often have a few. PrestaShop records who did what, so each person should have their own account rather than sharing one. Never share a single login between people.
What’s the next step once I’m a SuperAdmin?
Move on to giving Amabrik access to your store. That’s where you add an employee account for the email we give you so we can add the snippet.
