Give Amabrik access to your Joomla site
Add a dedicated Super User account for Amabrik so we install the snippet for you. Step-by-step Users > Manage > New guide, a login fallback, and how to remove it after.
If you’d rather not paste the Amabrik snippet yourself, Amabrik can install it for you. To do that we need an account in the Super Users group on your Joomla site, because the snippet goes into your template’s code and only Super Users can edit template files. The safest way to grant access is to create a separate Super User account for us, not to share your own login.
A dedicated account is safer because you can see exactly what we do, you never reveal your own password, and you can remove our access in a moment when the install is done. The steps below take a couple of minutes.
Before you start, you need to be a Super User yourself, since only a Super User can create another Super User. If you’re not sure, see Create an admin account on Joomla first.
Use the credentials Amabrik gives you
When you submit the Request Installation form, Amabrik confirms the exact email address and username to use for the new account. Use those, and only those, when you create the account below. Don’t guess an address or name. Joomla needs a unique login name and email for every account, and that email is how we receive access, so they have to be the ones Amabrik confirmed to you.
1. Open the new-user form
- Sign in to your Joomla admin at
yourdomain.com/administrator. - In the top menu, go to Users > Manage.
- Click the New button (top left).
2. Fill in the Account Details
On the Account Details tab:
- Name: type something clear like
Amabrik Installso it’s easy to spot later. - Login Name: enter the username Amabrik gave you. It has to be unique on the site.
- Password and Confirm Password: set a strong password. Joomla may require a minimum length and a mix of letters, numbers, and a special character. You’ll share this with Amabrik through the secure channel we point you to (see below), so we can sign in.
- Email: enter the exact email address Amabrik confirmed to you when you submitted the Request Installation form. This is required and has to be unique.
3. Assign the Super Users group
- Open the Assigned User Groups tab (next to Account Details).
- By default Joomla ticks Registered. Untick it and tick Super Users instead, so the account has the rights needed to edit the template.
- Click Save & Close.
That’s it. The account is now a Super User. Send the login to Amabrik through the secure channel we point you to (never in a public email or chat), and we add your snippet.
Fallback: a temporary login
If creating an account doesn’t work on your setup (some managed or restricted hosts limit this), you can instead share a temporary Super User login with Amabrik. If you go this route:
- Share the login only through the secure channel Amabrik points you to, never in a public email or chat.
- Change your password right after the install is confirmed, so the temporary access ends.
Creating a dedicated Super User account is still the safer option, so prefer it when you can.
Remove the access after install
Once Amabrik confirms the snippet is live, remove our access. You don’t owe us standing access to your site, and good security means revoking it the moment it’s no longer needed.
- Go to Users > Manage.
- Tick the checkbox next to the
Amabrik Installaccount. - Click Actions > Delete in the toolbar, then confirm. (If you’d rather keep a record, you can Block the account instead, which signs it out and prevents login.)
The snippet stays on your site; removing the account does not remove the install. From here, every widget change happens in your Amabrik dashboard, and we never need to touch your Joomla site again.
If you used the temporary-login fallback instead, just change that account’s password to end our access.
FAQ
Why a separate account instead of sharing my login?
You keep your own password private, you can see what the Amabrik account does, and you can remove the access in a moment afterward. Sharing your main login gives away more than needed and is harder to undo.
Why Super Users and not Administrator?
The snippet goes into your template’s code, and in Joomla only the Super Users group can edit template files. The Administrator group can’t, so an Administrator account wouldn’t be able to finish the install.
Why does Amabrik confirm the email and username?
Joomla needs a unique login name and email for every account, and the email is part of how we receive access. Using the ones Amabrik confirmed keeps it matched on our side.
Can I remove the account as soon as I create it?
Wait until Amabrik confirms the install is live. If you delete it first, we lose access before we’ve finished. Remove it right after we confirm.
Will deleting the Amabrik account remove my widgets?
No. The snippet stays on your site, and your widgets are controlled from your Amabrik dashboard. Deleting the account only ends our access to your Joomla admin.
My host won’t let me add an account. What now?
Use the temporary-login fallback above, sharing the login through Amabrik’s secure channel, and change the password once the install is confirmed.
