Create an account on Framer
How to create a Framer account with the access needed to add custom code to your site. Custom code works on every Framer plan, including the free tier.
To add the Amabrik snippet to a Framer site, you need an account with access to that site: enough to open Site Settings, edit custom code, and publish. That’s the site owner, or someone the owner has invited as an Editor. Here’s how to get set up.
The good news on plans: adding custom code does not require a paid plan. Plain HTML embeds and custom code are available on every Framer plan, including the free .framer.website tier. Only React code components and code overrides need a paid plan, and Amabrik uses neither.
Create a Framer account
If you don’t have a Framer account yet:
- Go to framer.com and click Get started (or Sign up), top right.
- Sign up with your email and a password, or continue with Google.
- Follow the prompts to set up your workspace and create your first site. Every Framer account belongs to a workspace, which holds your sites and your team.
- The account you signed up with is the owner of the sites you create, which is the highest level of access.
If you already have an account, sign in at framer.com and open the site you want to install on.
Confirm you have the right access
The Amabrik snippet goes in Site Settings > General > Custom Code, in the Start of <head> tag field. To edit that and publish the site, you need to be the site owner or an Editor on the project.
To check:
- Sign in to Framer and open the site you want to install on.
- Open Site Settings > General and look for the Custom Code section. If you can edit the Start of
<head>tag field, you have what you need. - If you can’t edit it, you’re likely a Viewer on a project someone else owns. Ask the owner to add the snippet for you, or to invite you as an Editor. The access article covers how they do that.
Custom code is on every plan
This is where Framer differs from some other builders. You can publish custom code on the free .framer.website plan. There’s no upgrade required just to paste the Amabrik script.
The paid plans add things like a custom domain, more pages, and React code components and overrides. None of those are needed to run Amabrik. So if all you want is to add the snippet, the free plan is enough, and you can move on to the install guide.
Add the snippet yourself, or let Amabrik do it
Once you’re signed in to a site you can edit, you can paste the Amabrik snippet into Site Settings > General > Custom Code > Start of <head> tag, then publish. The “How to add Amabrik to Framer” guide walks through it.
If you’d rather not touch the code, Amabrik can install it for you. In that case, see the next article on giving Amabrik access to your Framer site.
FAQ
Do I need to be the owner, or is an invited member enough?
An invited Editor works, as long as they can open Site Settings and publish. The owner always has that access. The access article covers how to invite someone.
Can I add custom code on the free Framer plan?
Yes. Plain custom code and HTML embeds are available on every Framer plan, including the free .framer.website tier. Only React code components and code overrides need a paid plan, and Amabrik doesn’t use those.
Where exactly is custom code?
Open the site, go to Site Settings > General, scroll to the Custom Code section, and use the Start of <head> tag field.
Do I need a custom domain to run Amabrik?
No. Amabrik runs the same on a free .framer.website address as it does on a custom domain. Just make sure the live domain you publish to is set as the site domain in your Amabrik dashboard.
