Give Amabrik access to your Big Cartel shop

Big Cartel has no staff or collaborator invites, so the safe way to let Amabrik install the snippet is a temporary login. Set one up, then change the password after.

You’ve asked Amabrik to install the snippet for you. To do that, we need to reach your theme’s Code area under Shop settings > Shop designer > Code. On most platforms we’d ask you to invite us as a contributor. Big Cartel works differently, so this page explains the honest, safe way to grant access here.

Before you start, make sure you can sign in to the account that owns the shop. If you’re not sure, see creating an admin account on Big Cartel.

Big Cartel has no invite, so here’s the safe way

We’ll be straight with you: as of June 2026, Big Cartel shops have a single account and no way to add a second user. There are no staff logins, no team members, and no collaborator invites. Big Cartel’s own help says the email on your Account page is the only address they grant access to. So there’s no “invite Amabrik” button to click.

That leaves one realistic option: you let us sign in with a temporary login, we add the snippet, and you change the password the moment we’re done. Done carefully, this is quick and low risk. The steps below keep it safe.

The email to coordinate with us

When you submit the Request Installation form in your Amabrik dashboard, we confirm the exact email address to use when you send us the temporary login and to coordinate the install. Use that address, not a guess. It’s shown to you when you submit the form, so keep that page open while you follow the steps below. Don’t send credentials to any other address.

1. Set a temporary password just for the install

Don’t share your real, everyday password. Change it to a throwaway one first, so the credentials you hand over are only good for this one job and you’ll replace them straight after.

  1. Sign in to your Big Cartel admin at bigcartel.com.
  2. Open Shop settings > Account.
  3. Change the password to a new, strong one made only for this install. Don’t reuse a password from anywhere else.
  4. Save the change.

If your shop signs in with Google rather than an email and password, set an email-and-password login for the install instead of sharing your Google account, then you can remove or change it after. Sharing a Google account login is harder to take back cleanly.

2. Send us the temporary login safely

Now share the email and the temporary password with us, using the address we gave you on the Request Installation form.

  • Send it through a secure channel. Never post a password in plain email, public chat, or anywhere it could be seen later.
  • Send the email and the temporary password separately if you can.
  • Tell us a short window when you’d like the install done, so the temporary password isn’t sitting around longer than needed.

We sign in only to add the one snippet under Shop settings > Shop designer > Code, then we tell you it’s done. We don’t change anything else and we don’t keep your password.

3. Change the password back after the install

This is the step that makes it safe, so don’t skip it. As soon as we confirm the snippet is in and you’ve seen your widgets on the store, change the password again.

  1. Sign in to your Big Cartel admin.
  2. Open Shop settings > Account.
  3. Set a new password (back to your usual one, or a fresh strong one). The temporary login we used no longer works after this.
  4. Save.

Once you’ve changed it, we have no way back into your shop, and your widgets keep running on their own.

Why removing access matters

The temporary password is the only key we had, so changing it is what takes our access away. There’s no contributor account to delete on Big Cartel, so the password change is the removal. Until you change it, that login still works, so do it right after the install rather than later.

FAQ

Can’t I just invite Amabrik instead of sharing a login?

No. Big Cartel doesn’t have user invites, staff accounts, or collaborator roles. A single account owns each shop, so a temporary login is the only way to grant access. That’s why changing the password afterward matters so much.

Is sharing a login safe?

It’s safe when you do it the way above: a temporary password made only for this install, sent through a secure channel to the address we gave you, then changed back as soon as we’re done. Never share your everyday password, and never leave the temporary one in place.

Should I send the credentials to any Amabrik email I find online?

No. Only use the email address shown to you on the Request Installation form. That’s how we confirm the credentials are reaching us and no one else.

What if my shop logs in with Google?

Set an email-and-password login for the install rather than sharing your Google account, then change or remove it after. A Google account is harder to take back cleanly, so keep it out of this.

Will changing the password break my widgets?

No. The snippet sits in your theme’s Code and keeps loading your widgets. Changing the password only stops us signing in again; it has no effect on what visitors see.

How do I remove Amabrik later?

Open Shop settings > Shop designer > Code, delete the snippet from the Integration Code Head box (or from the Layout template if that’s where it went), and save. See how to add Amabrik to Big Cartel for where it lives.
